NHS Dental Care - Wales
From the 1st April 2026, a new NHS dental contract was introduced by the Welsh Government.
These changes are part of a national NHS contract update that all NHS dental practices in Wales are required to follow.
What this means for you:
1. Regular Check-Ups (Recalls) - £25.00 per visit
Regular Check-Ups (Recalls) must follow NICE guidance (https://www.nice.org.uk/guidance) and be based on your individual oral health. This will determine the length of time required between each check-up.
This means that your routine NHS check-ups may be up to every 18-24 months apart, depending on your oral health risk assessment. We can’t guarantee that your NHS check-ups will always be with the same dentist.
We appreciate that many of our patients may prefer the reassurance of being seen more frequently by their regular dentist, or would like to arrange an interim exam or a hygiene appointment. You can choose:
a Pay As You Go appointment
one of our monthly payment plans, which can:
secure more regular check-ups with your regular dentist
spread the cost of check-ups and hygiene over 12 months
give 10% off all treatments, including cosmetic and implant treatments
give 10% off for plan members’ children
result in no loss of NHS entitlement
2. NHS Treatment charges increased from the 1st April 2026
Any NHS treatments that started after the 1st April 2026 will be charged under the new NHS “Care Package” fee structure, as set by the Welsh Government.
Care packages group together related treatments and are based on your clinical need. The types of care packages, what they include, and the associated charges can be downloaded here.

We understand that changes to NHS care can raise questions, and our team will always be happy to explain what this means for you and help you choose the option that best suits your needs.
