Children's braces benefits

Fixed braces are an effective method to improve the appearance of protruding and crowded teeth as well as overbites. Early intervention can give children lifelong and happy smiles. There’s usually a waiting list to get treatment on the NHS, but your orthodontist will explain your options if you’d prefer your child to get treated privately.

Reliably effective

Whether it’s for cosmetic purposes or for dental-related issues, fixed braces are often the most effective solution.

Customisable aesthetic

Our braces for kids can be customised with colour, and there are many to choose from. If your child would prefer less visibility, they can opt for tooth-coloured brackets and discreet wires.

Children's braces FAQs

Explore answers to the most common questions about children's braces.

Usually around the age of 11 or 12, while children are still growing, is the ideal time to have orthodontic treatment.

The type of braces needed depends on the patient’s dental requirements. Some are removable, while fixed braces stay in all the time. All braces given on the NHS are made of metal. If you want clear or plastic systems, then these are usually only available privately.

If you believe your child is being unfairly refused access to braces on the NHS, or the waiting list is unreasonably long, contact your local NHS England ICB. Alternatively, we can discuss private options for children’s braces.

Braces require excellent oral hygiene and compliance. Fixed braces usually work well, but it’s vital that you care for your teeth whilst you have them. For example, brushing your teeth twice a day and flossing will help maintain your oral health. Visit your dentist regularly while having this treatment.
